The theme this year is Encounter our Stories – arts, culture and identity

This event is a co-operative effort between St.Mary’s and the Addington Neighbourhood Association, with support from the Christchurch City Council Heritage team.

  • Joanna Orwin will speak about the Deans’ presence in Riccarton and it’s implication for the Canterbury Settlement , with special reference to the Kemp Deed.
  • Doreen Darnell will speak about her book “Village in the City”-Facing the Challenges of Change. A collection of comments about Addington from people who have lived here.
  • John Wilson will present a talk about T S Foster (Addington’s first schoolmaster). Foster was an Addington church school teacher who was one of the first students to attend Canterbury College and one of the first to graduate. He was later a headmaster of Christchurch West School.
  • Gareth Wright (Addington Walkways) and updated info re the Addington Heritage App.

Evening finishes with tea, coffee, iced buns and conversations.  Both Joanna Orwin and Doreen Darnell will have books available for purchase and there are still some copies available of “Local Lives”; A History of Addington by John Wilson.
